The meaning of names

Before my mom wasn’t quite sure how to translate the meaning of my Chinese name into English. Then she got her hands on a Chinese-English. My name, pronounced “yun yun” means joy or delight, when used as a noun, and happy, joyful, merry, and glad, when used as an adjective.

My sister’s name, “hai ling”, translates to rest or repose and peaceful or tranquil.

I don’t think our name quite reflects our personality as others might have hoped. If my name was to describe me, it would be the Chinese word for moody or nihilism or pensive. Brooding also comes to mind. Maybe cerebral and meditative on a good day.

By the way, the Chinese zodiac for this year is my animal, the boar. Does this mean I get gifts, or something?
